The Planet has successfully completed the Statement on Auditing Standards No. 70 (SAS 70) Type II audit. Developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the widely recognized auditing standard represents that The Planet has been through a rigorous evaluation of its internal processes and controls through an independent third-party auditor. The Type II designation not only includes the controls, but also includes detailed testing over a minimum six-month period.
In its audit, The Planet covered controls and processes for its seven world-class data centers; its enterprise-class network; data center operations; customer provisioning systems; physical and environmental security; problem management and resolution through its customer portal; and organization and administration of its human resources department.
A service auditor’s examination performed in accordance with SAS 70 is widely recognized, because it represents that a service organization has been through an in-depth audit of its control objectives and control activities, which often include controls over information technology and related processes. In today’s global economy, service organizations or service providers must demonstrate that they have adequate controls and safeguards when they host or process data belonging to their customers.
In addition, the requirements of Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 make SAS 70 audit reports even more important to the process of reporting on the effectiveness of internal control over financial reporting.
To conduct the audit, The Planet retained the services of Weaver L.L.P. Based in Fort Worth, Texas, the firm is ranked among the top 100 certified public accounting firms in the nation.
